Bail condition met.

Senator Rochas Okorocha is a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He appeared before the party’s seven-man presidential screening committee on Tuesday night.

Okorocha is the immediate past Governor of Imo representing Imo West in the Senate.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) held him in custody over an alleged N2.9 billion fraud case.

He was, however, granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja early Tuesday. He was to pay N500 million for his bail with one surety in like sum.

It was impossible for Okorocha to appear before the APC-led presidential screening…

…committee for the 2023 screening led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. It became a topic of political discourse following his ordeal in the hands of the EFCC.

The former Imo governor was, further, granted bail by Justice Inyang Ekwo…

…after dismissing a counter-affidavit the EFCC filed against the former governor.

The EFCC through its lawyer, Mr. Gbolahan Latona, urged the court to allow Okorocha to remain in custody, alleging that he posed a flight risk.

Okorocha not only breached the administrative bail but also made himself inaccessible. This, however, led to his forceful arrest on May 24.

The former Imo governor faced a 17-count money laundering charge.

Mr. Latona told the court that Mr. Okorocha had the capacity to interfere with some of its proposed witnesses.

Bail condition met: The defense lawyer’s verdict

However, the defense lawyer, Mr. Solomon Umoh, SAN, assured the court that his client would be available to face his trial.

The defense lawyer, further, stressed that his client who is a responsible citizen and a presidential aspirant, would not conduct himself in any manner that would undermine the sanctity of the court.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Okorocha was the last aspirant to be screened by the APC 2023 presidential primary on Tuesday night.
